Finding a Birthday Party place that is different from the “usual” takes a little searching …. We found a big hit in choosing Conley’s Resort in Butler for my daughter’s 8th birthday! Even though her big day is in the summer, it is early June – and honestly, you never quite know how the weather will be so early in the summer, so we went ahead and booked our party at The Pirate Cove Waterpark at Conley’s Resort. Naturally, it actually turned out to be an 85 degree sunny day …. and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the ROOF actually opens over the pool to allow the fresh air and sunshine in! I had no idea … BONUS!
The Pirate Cove Waterpark at Conley Resort is a year-round golf resort set on a beautiful rolling hills location on Route 8, just minutes north of Pittsburgh. It offers 56 rooms, Knickers Tavern and of course, the waterpark. It took us about 20 minutes from the North Hills, so not bad at all. My older daughter actually attended a sleep-over teenager birthday party back in December, which is how we came to find out about this jewel. Birthday parties are simple and fun here, even with 10 little 8 year olds! We simply called ahead a few weeks to reserve our 3 hour party time (party reservations are required a minimum 10 days in advance). When we arrived, we went to the Front Desk inside to pay for the pool admission and headed downstairs to the party room!
The kids all arrived a few minutes early to change into their suits (the changing area is one big room with not a lot of privacy) – most kids came with their suits on. They all found their place at the table, got their wrist bands and off to the pool they went!
Accommodations – The party room is large with room for at least 4-6 parties at a time. Since it was a summer day and we were the last party of the day, we practically had the place to ourselves! . There are 2 water slides to entertain the kids … one slow and one fast and a big pirate ship with water shooting canon! There is also a hot tub and sauna area too. The party walls are painted with colorful Pirate themed murals and the room was bright and clean. They offered a great wall for taking a group picture! In fact, we used that group photo to make our Thank you cards … all the kids loved having that extra memory! It is a resort … so you can book a room and enjoy a weekend getaway!
Safety – There is a lifeguard on duty at all times. The entire pool is only 3 feet deep, so this is good for the smaller kids. Honestly, even my 13 year old had a great time at the Birthday party she’d attended in December The floor surrounding the pool is indoor/outdoor carpeting, so soft on the feet. There were plenty of chairs for the Adults to sit in around the pool – so lots of extra eyes.
Food – The food was your typical kid fare, 2 slices of pizza, chicken fingers/fries, hot dog/fries …the portions were a good size and the food was good. You are allowed to bring your own cake and ice cream and the staff kept them in the kitchen fridge until we were ready – I actually cut and served it myself.
Price – The price depends on your party day … Monday and Thursday parties are less expensive ( $12/per child with 10 or more and a pre-booked party; Friday/Saturday and Sundays you pay $17 per child) Adults may join in the fun too, everybody pays the same price for the swim band. Food for the kids was the additional $4/per … they also offer a limited “bar food” menu for the adults to order …so we ordered a variety of appetizers for the adults. You may go upstairs to the resort bar to order an alcoholic beverage if you like … you just can’t bring it down to the party area.
If you are going – Check out their details online (www.conleyresort.com) – they offer a free downloadable Birthday Invite! Make sure to take your own towel! Be prepared to control your own party guests … there is not a dedicated party host, so the flow of the party and tracking the gifts is on you. Parties are limited to 3 hours, which is actually the perfect amount of time – Our party started at 4 so the kids swam for an hour, ate and opened gifts, then swam another hour afterwards. Of course, none of the kids wanted to get out of the pool, it helped that we were the last party and everyone had to get out anyway! I think Conley’s would be the perfect little getaway surprise for the kids … who wouldn’t enjoy a day at the pool, rain or shine, snow or sun!? In fact, you can stop in any day for pool visit fun ... just check their hours of operation ... and they also offer a yearly pool membership …. Worth checking out! We’ll be back!
